How to Dye with Cationic Dyes

Cationic dyestuff is a kind of environmentally friendly and harmless dyestuff in our life, so many friends in our life like to use it to dye. Here let's see how to dye with cationic dyes.


1. It's better to control the temperature of dyeing with retarder.

The uniform dyeing of acrylic fibers can be achieved by prolonging the heating time properly. The temperature must be strictly controlled during dyeing. This method is suitable for bulk fiber dyeing, rope dyeing and wool-nitrile blended yarn dyeing. The dyes in the dyeing bath gradually absorb with the increase of temperature, which makes it easy for wool nitrile blends to dye acid dyes and apply cationic softeners in the same bath. M-type cationic dyes or X-type cationic dyes with moderate affinity can be used in the dyeing prescription, which can achieve uniform spraying effect. Because the dyeing process must accurately grasp the temperature, so the production equipment should have temperature program automatic control.

2. Dyeing method with retarder

The blocking effect of cationic retarder on acidic groups on acrylic fibers was studied. The amount of retarder was added to make acrylic fibers saturated properly, which hindered the absorption of cationic dyes and could achieve leveling effect for dyes with fast dyeing speed and poor dyeing migration. This dyeing method is suitable for all kinds of acrylic fibers. The characteristics of cationic retardant should be compatible with the K value of dyes. Mineral powder has no retarding effect on dyes with low K value.

3. Dyeing method with retarder and temperature control at the same time

This is a more extensive and stable dyeing process for acrylic fibers. According to different types of fibers, appropriate retarders and temperature control are selected, and the dyeing bath is absorbed at 85-90 or 90-95 degrees. This is an ideal condition for shrinkage and dyeing of acrylic bulky yarns at the same time.

4. Dyeing with Anionic Auxiliaries

A proper amount of anionic diffuser N and leveling agent O in dyeing bath can change the ionization state of cationic dyes, temporarily lose the charge attraction to acrylic fibers, or directly use disperse cationic dyes (Kayacryl ED). This method is advantageous to dyeing wool nitrile blends in the same bath with acid dyes, or in the same bath with disperse dyes for dyeing polyester nitrile blends.

5. Quick dyeing at constant temperature

When cationic retardant is added in dyeing bath, acrylic fibers are dyed at 90 C, dye adsorption and diffusion are completed simultaneously in a short time, and the production cycle is shortened. The most ideal dyeing process is the dyeing temperature, faster heating and shortest dyeing time. If the conditions are strictly met, it can be guaranteed.
