The difference between dyes and pigments

The difference between dyestuffs and pigments is that dyes are organic compounds that can dye fibers or other substrates to a certain color. Dyes are used primarily for dyeing and printing of fabrics. Most of them can be dissolved in water or converted into soluble conditions by certain chemical treatments. Some dyes are insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol and oil, and can be used for coloring wax, plastics and other substances. Dyestuffs are very different from pigments. Pigments are colored organic or inorganic compounds that are insoluble in water and usually organic solvents. But not all coloured substances can be used as organic pigments. They are necessary to have a function of pigment.

3) it is easy to be dispersed evenly in the application and is not affected by the physical and chemical effects of the medium in all the dispersing processes, and the intrinsic crystal structure of them is preserved.

4) sun resistance, weather resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance and organic solvent resistance.

Compared with dyes, organic pigments have different functions in application. The traditional use of dyestuffs is to dye textiles, and the traditional use of the pigment is to color non textiles (such as ink, paint, paint, plastic, rubber, etc.).  This is due to the affinity (or direct) of the dyestuffs to textiles, which can be adsorbed and fixed by fiber molecules, and the pigment has no affinity for all the color targets, and is primarily associated with the resin, adhesive and other film forming substances. In the process of application, dyes are usually dissolved in the use of the medium, even if the disperse dye or the reducing dye, the process of dyeing the fiber from the crystal state first to the molecular condition is also experienced in dyeing. Therefore, the color of the dye itself does not mean its color on the fabric. In the process of application, the pigment is insoluble in the use of the medium, so it always exists in the original crystal condition, so the color of the pigment itself represents its color in the substrate. It is precisely because of this, the crystal state of the pigment is very important to the pigment, and the crystal state of the dye is not so important, or the crystal state of the dye itself is not closely related to its dyeing practice. Dyes and pigments are different concepts, but they can be used in specific situations. If some anthraquinones are reduced to dyes, they are insoluble dyes, but they can also be used as pigments after pigmentation. These dyes are called pigment or dyestuff pigment.
